Why I Have Been Absent for a Month

Hi, friends,

As some of you may have noticed, I kind of dropped off the radar for the last month. Let me explain why.

The morning that I published my last blog, Chatting with Cedric, I received earth-shattering news. My mom came to where I work, made me sit down, and told me that my goddaughter had just been killed in a terrible accident and that her mom, my cousin-in-law, was in the hospital. They were both hit by a car while crossing the street.

I can't really say that I have or ever will truly recover from that news, but I have worked really hard for the last month to be functional again. I still cry several times a week. When I hear a Winnie the Pooh song or see a Disney princess, all I can think of is not being able to share it with Noel.

A little over two years ago, when I heard the news that I was going to be her godmother, I kind of freaked out. I had no idea what I was about to get into. Noel was the first baby I ever held, and she took a firm hold on my heart.

Almost immediately upon hearing that I was to be Noel's godmother, I asked Dev's sister to crochet her a toy bunny. When I saw that tiny yellow ball of yarn, I called him Gizmo, and a story began to form in my mind. It took me about a 8 months to complete the manuscript and over a year to edit, edit, and edit again. I was preparing to present some form of the book to Noel on her 2nd birthday, this March.

Now, I am unsure of what I am going to do. I have a homeless bunny and a broken heart.
